Namaste
My name is Deb'bora Imani.

I am an Author, Actor, Montessori and Drama Teacher and Gestalt Psychotherapist.

My Story

I was born and raised in the Bronx New York. We moved to California where I trained as an actor receiving my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drama. I began my career working with the San Francisco Mime Troupe.

I always wanted to teach and work with children so after years of performing throughout the United States and Europe I decided to live and train in the United Kingdom as a Montessori Teacher.

Although I loved performing and sharing my skills with young people it became clear to me that I needed to learn more about myself and realized that Drama, as well as being a creative vehicle, could also be used therapeutically.

During my time in the UK I completed my M.A. in Gestalt Psychotherapy and Diploma in Drama therapy. I specialized in working therapeutically with families and young people from all walks of life. I recognize the importance of working holistically with individuals within the context of different environments namely the family, community and educational settings.

For nine years I worked as a ‘Psychotherapist / Manager / Developer’ at ‘Place2Be’- an organization which is based in schools across England, Scotland and Wales offering emotional and therapeutic support to children in primary schools.

I successfully introduced and piloted 'Place2Be’ in Scotland and a developed a new initiative – ‘A Place for Parents’ which offered therapeutic support to parents of children who attend ‘Place2Be’.

From 2008 until the summer of 2022 I was living in the USA where I was guiding young people as a teacher in the areas of Drama, Montessori and more recently Character Education.  I realize that whatever role I have pursued I continue to use my therapeutic skills and tools in each one. I offer children, young people, adults and families a safe and supportive space where they express and explore their thoughts and feelings in relation to themselves and their environment through drama, spoken word, music, and movement.

Over the past 25 years I have specialized in working with families, children, teenagers and young people from all walks of life. I recognize the importance of working with ‘the whole child’ within the context of different environments namely the family, community and educational settings.

It has taken me many years to write and record this audio book.  I am so thankful that I can finally share my journey.  As I continue on my path, I am filled with gratitude for my family and friends in the US and the UK. They have all taught me so much about unconditional love.

I currently live in Scotland, UK with my husband and work as a Psychotherapist at 'The Whole Works' in Edinburgh.

Peace.

Deb'bora.
